Iran has called on the United Nations Security Council to take action over a US strike on a wedding gathering in the southern province of Hormozgan, accusing Washington of committing a war crime, Middle East Eye reported.
In a letter submitted to the Security Council, Iranian Ambassador Gholamhossein Darzi said civilians had been targeted in the bombing. He characterised the incident as an “appalling” and “egregious” crime and said it amounted to a breach of international law.
Darzi asked the UN body to “hold the United States fully responsible” for the attack. He also urged the council to ensure that Washington brings “an end to its acts of aggression” against Iran.
According to the report, the US strike killed at least four people. Two children were among those who died. The gathering struck by the bombing was a wedding in Hormozgan province in southern Iran.
Iran’s appeal focused on responsibility for the civilian deaths and the Security Council’s role in responding to the incident. Darzi’s letter framed the bombing as both a specific attack on civilians and part of what Tehran described as wider US aggression against Iran.
